Margherita Hut - 4,554

Meet with the mountain guide in the early afternoon, check materials and climb to Passo dei Salati (by lifts or 4×4 cab depending on the period).
From here we will begin the trek to the Mantua Hut or Gnifetti Hut depending on the availability of facilities.

Breakfast at about 4 a.m. and, after putting on crampons and tying up, we will set out on the glacier in the direction of Colle del Lys.
From the Colle del Lys we will lower a few meters on the Grenz glacier to take us under the steep final slope.
Reaching the 4,554 meters of the Capanna Margherita, it will be possible to concerd a short break sipping a hot tea and tasting the pizza and the fantastic cakes of the highest refuge in Europe.

From the summit, the descent will be on the same route.

The ascent to Capanna Margherita presents no particular technical difficulties and is well suited even to hikers with no previous mountaineering experience. It does, however, take place on a rather crevassed glacier on which roped progression management is essential.
